(I haven't tried a USB thumb drive yet I was afraid I might transmit the virus that way if its still there?). My DVD burner won't work as I was trying to salvage some of my files if I could. My sound device says audio service is not running. My wireless network connection says service not installed. I did as you said but I used my Vista installation CD (As I looked at your link and it was for Windows 7 I checked the Vista forum and instructions were the same) Unfortunately There is no change in my OS It takes almost 7 min to load to my desktop and once there I can do almost nothing. bootrec /fixmbr (<- there is a "space" after "bootrec") bootrec /fixboot (<- there is a "space" after "bootrec") exit Restart computer. On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:Ĭhoose Command Prompt You should see X:\SOURCES>. If none of the above apply you can create System Repair Disc (link in "Option two") and boot from it. It's possible also that your computer has a pre-installed recovery partition instead - in such a case use a method one (by pressing F8 before Windows starts loading). ************************************************************************* Please Boot to the System Recovery Options If you have Windows 7 installation disc, just insert a DVD to the drive, restart computer and it should load automatically (option two presented in the article). You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. Should I run one of the other bootrec commands or has this Trojan destroyed my boot sector? any help would be appreciated. It seemed to stop the Trojan but now nothing but the basic OS works, No Internet, No sound, No DVD player I get Msgs like service not installed and Windows explorer keeps crashing. I went to Mcafee's website and followed their elimination steps which concluded with run Run Bootrec/fixmbr from the recovery console and follow on screen instructions well there were no instructions just operation complete MSG. I have an older gateway laptop with Windows Vista OS I recently got a virus that Mcafee could not stop (specifically: ZeroAccess) I would continuously get pop-ups saying Trojan detected please restart but it would not eliminate it. I believe my problem now is in the Boot sector. The machine in question is almost inoperable I know this started with a Virus but through inept blundering I have made it worse. To preface this I have read your sticky posts but I am unable to use the recommended software as yet.
